I Can't Stop!

Rebound Carers' Support Group have commissioned a brand new play to be performed in schools in the Portsmouth and East Hampshire areas.  The play is designed to raise awareness of, and stimulate discussion about, issues around drug and alcohol addiction and substance misuse among young people and in family contexts.

The play has been written by Bernie C Byrnes and is being produced in partnership with Enrich RSE

The play can be performed as a stand alone play for school students, or can also be staged with facilitated workshops to discuss the issues raised with the students.  The play is also available to be staged as a separate performance for parents, guardians and community groups in the school's area.

If you would like to discuss your school hosting a production, please complete the contact form below.

I Can't Stop!

by Bernie C Byrnes

(Created for Rebound Carers' Support Group)

Alex hurts herself to have control over her body because she can't control anything else in her life.  Her mum, Julie, feels helpless.  Julie drinks more than she should - but then doesn't everyone?

Loving a drug addict or an alcoholic is the hardest thing you will ever do ...

I Can't Stop! takes a frank and honest look at how addiction can tear families apart and, sometimes, even worse, bind them closer together.

Schools Hosting

Staging of I Can't Stop is FREE OF CHARGE to schools in Portsmouth and East Hampshire.  There will be a charge of £45 per workshop, with a maximum of 25 students per workshop, to cover the cost of facilitators.

We would like to hear from schools in the area that would be interested in hosting the play from January 2021.  In order for the play to be safe and effective in your establishment, we would need the following commitments:

  • Allow 40 minutes for the production to take place, plus a 15 minute Question and Answer session.  We will need the full 55 minutes in order to deliver this in its entirety
  • To timetable the Production (we can discuss the specific needs of your School once the Contact Form below has been completed)
  • To timetable the optional Workshops where follow up workshops have been booked
  • To allocate a dedicated Teacher / Member of Staff to greet and support us throughout the duration of our visit
  • To provide details of the safeguarding lead for any disclosures that we are concerned about on the day, should this happen
  • To provide the appropriate space(s) for us to deliver the Production and Workshops
