Meet the Trustees

Rebound Carers' Group is managed by a volunteer Board of Trustees.  They each have a direct, personal interest in Rebound's work as well as skills and experience to help manage the Group, make decisions about the services the Group offers to meet the needs of members and group users and oversee the Group's finances. Rebound Carers' Support Group is a registered Charity.

I have a background in Administration and working for the NHS, and have now retired.

Back in 1997 I discovered my 21-year old son was addicted to heroin and crack cocaine and had been taking Class B drugs from the age of 13. There were no services provided to help me - the doors were always closed to families.  I found myself wondering how many others were suffering the same fate and keeping silent.  Hence in 2007 Rebound Carers Support Group was formed, the only support group for families in the City of Portsmouth.

Confidentiality and a safe space for our members to speak freely about their worries and concerns are of paramount importance and when Rebound achieved Charitable status, after being Chair for many years, I joined our Board of Trustees.

With the help and support of this wonderful team we hope to go from strength to strength to help anyone who is struggling to cope with the worry and stigma of a loved one’s misuse of drugs and/or alcohol.

I have an extensive background in the Gas Industry as an apprentice and joined Highbury College in 1967 as a Lecturer, teaching and assessing students 16-80 to this day 2018.

I became a member of Rebound in 2008, when my wife was in an alcohol detox programme and is now in recovery these last nine years.  I have been a regular member from the beginning, and the support and guidance I have received from the Group and Trustees has helped me a great deal to be able to cope, even though my wife is still in recovery - thank goodness!

I was asked to become a Trustee when Rebound obtained Charity status, which I accepted as an honour, in the hope that my journey through the ups and downs of addiction to eventual receovery may help other carers to cope and see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Having changed career after an excellent five year Engineering Apprenticeship, the next 45+ years were spent in Wholesale Distribution of DIY Products and Garden Products plus a short period of Interim Management in Food Distribution.  Ten years were spent as a Main Board Director of a plc.  Although retired, sill working two or three days per week!

Married to Jackie for approaching 50 years, we have three boys and one grandchild.

As a Trustee ensuring that our Charity operates as required by the Charity Commission, I am also Treasurer - holding tightly on to our purse strings!

1980 - 2003  Area Sales Manager, subsequently Business Development Manager, Shell Direct Ltd.

During this period, Trustee Director 2000 - 2003, Shell Distributors Pension Trustee Ltd.

I joined Rebound in 2012 and became a Trustee in 2014 because I was so impressed with the impact the meetings made on vulnerable carers trying to find explanations and solace in a forum of people all suffering the same struggle with their loved ones' addiction.  I feel that it is essential that Rebound is there for the real sufferers of addiction - the carers!
